An Owner’s Representative for Cleanroom Projects

A cleanroom project usually starts with a mandate. A research professor, an R&D group, or a facilities manager is told the organization needs a cleanroom of a certain class and is expected to deliver it without a background in regulatory requirements, best industry practices, or contamination control to lean on. That is where Cleanroom Construction Associates is most useful.

We are an owner’s representative and subject matter expert. We work as an extension of your facilities department and project team, translating user requirements into design criteria, managing the interface between your team and the designers and contractors, and bridging the information gap between your team’s needs and the information required for project execution.

Much of the value is knowing what you can leave out: we right-size the design so the cleanroom still meets its classification and costs less to build.

Why Owners and Contractors Work With CCA

On your side of the table

CCA does not perform the construction. We represent you, which means our only incentive is the right facility, not over design or more building. We manage designers and contractors on your behalf and answer to you alone.

The cleanroom you need costs less

Over-specification is the most expensive mistake in cleanroom construction. We challenge assumptions, size the ISO class, airflow, and finishes to what your process requires, and help deliver a facility that meets its classification and optimizes value.

Direct access to the principal

You reach the principal, not a queue of salespeople. Most clients are surprised to get a real response to a contact form within hours instead of watching it vanish.

35+ years, every sector, worldwide

More than three decades across life sciences, microelectronics, and battery manufacturing, from research cleanrooms abroad to production facilities across the US.

Who We Are

What We Do

The work spans the full life of a cleanroom project, with a focus on construction. We focus on cleanroom construction. That is the deep end of our expertise and where most consultants are thinnest.

Planning

User requirement specifications, basis of design, design criteria, contamination control analysis, budget, and schedule development.

Design

Design reviews, compliance analysis, constructability reviews, and value engineering.

Construction

Build-clean protocols, scope of work development, schedule and sequencing, product and subcontractor sourcing, and site QA/QC.

Commissioning

Master commissioning plans, commissioning protocols, and startup support.

Consulting

Construction claims, design liability review, and expert witness support.

Industries We Build For

Every cleanroom exists to control particles. What changes from one industry to the next is the reason those particles matter.

Life Sciences

Biotechnology, pharmaceutical, compounding pharmacy, medical device.

A stray particle can transport a microbe into a sterile product. Demand is driven by new drugs coming to market and the onshoring of raw material manufacturing.

Microelectronics

Semiconductor, Quantum Chip Platforms, Defense, and Aerospace.

A particle lodged in a circuit kills efficiency and yield. Demand is driven by the push to bring chip manufacturing back onshore.

Battery and Dry Rooms

Lithium-ion, EV, energy storage.

A particle that pierces the layer between anode and cathode can cause a short, heat, and fire. Demand is driven by rapid battery development for EV, military, and energy storage.

Litigation Support

Cleanroom Expert Witness Services

When a cleanroom or its design becomes the subject of litigation, the technical questions are narrow and few people can answer them. CCA provides independent expert opinion on design liability, construction quality, tax classification, and performance disputes, with reports prepared to the standard of the court.

Because we have spent our career building cleanrooms, we can speak to requirements, best practices, means, methods, materials, and workmanship, not just contamination principles.

Common Questions About Cleanroom Projects

What ISO class does my process actually need?

The answer depends on your product, process risk, regulatory obligations, and how people and materials move through the room. CCA helps translate those requirements into a cleanroom class that is defensible without being overbuilt.

When should I bring in a cleanroom consultant?

Bring CCA in before design decisions harden. Early involvement helps define user requirements, challenge assumptions, and prevent costly changes once architecture, mechanical systems, and construction sequencing are already underway.

Do I need laminar flow and a raised access floor?

Not always. The right solution depends on the classification, process sensitivity, equipment, maintenance access, and airflow strategy. Many projects can meet their goals with a simpler and less expensive design.

What regulatory standards apply to my cleanroom?

Applicable standards may include ISO 14644, cGMP expectations, USP requirements, internal quality standards, or industry-specific guidance. CCA helps identify which standards matter and how they affect design and construction.

What does a cleanroom cost to build?

Cost is driven by classification, air changes, humidity control, finishes, utilities, validation requirements, and schedule. The largest savings usually come from defining the right room before construction begins.

Is a modular cleanroom taxed as equipment or as a building improvement?

That depends on configuration, jurisdiction, and how the system is installed. CCA can support technical classification questions and provide expert review when a project becomes part of a tax or construction dispute.

Modular Construction in Pharmaceutical Manufacturing

A modular component strategy, sourcing walls, filters, and air handlers from multiple global suppliers instead of one prefabricated vendor, allows pharmaceutical facilities to be built on multiple levels simultaneously and deployed faster worldwide.
